During the Billboard Music Awards telecast Wednesday night, Demi Lovato performed her unpatriotic song, “Commander in Chief,” which bashes Donald Trump.

Lovato, 28, released the song earlier in the day, before performing it on stage during the live broadcast, and is a clear expression of the star’s dissatisfaction with Trump’s presidency.

In the chorus, Lovato sings: “Commander in Chief, honestly / If I did the things you do / I couldn’t sleep, seriously,” she sings. “Do you even know the truth? / We’re in a state of crisis, people are dyin’ / While you line your pockets deep / Commander in Chief, how does it feel to still / Be able to breathe?”

The anti-Trump performance came just one night before NBC planned to host a live town hall with the president.

At the end of Lovato’s performance, the network cut from a wide shot of the entire set to a close up of the singer.  However, footage provided by TMZ showed that Lovato’s intention was for viewers to see the word “vote” displayed on stage.

Some fans speculate that NBC censored the politically charged message due to its overtly partisan nature and Lovato’s clear motivation for viewers to vote against Trump.

Despite the controversy, NBC tweeted a photo of Lovato’s performance with the electronic backdrop with the word “vote” displayed in large white letters.

Both Lovato and NBC have yet to release comments regarding the incident.
