Matthew McConaughey: ‘I Couldn’t Mandate Having To Vaccinate the Younger Kids’

By Movieguide® Staff

Matthew McConaughey expressed his disagreement with vaccine mandates for children.

The Hollywood actor said that there is not enough data on the COVID-19 vaccines to give him assurance that it is entirely safe for everyone.

“I couldn’t mandate having to vaccinate the younger kids,” he said at The New York Times’ DealBook summit. “I still want to find out more information. … There will come a time where you’re going to have to roll the dice one way or the other and go: ‘Where are the numbers in my favor?’”

Despite his hesitation to vaccine his children, he also noted that the public stop pushing a “narrative” that says the vaccine is a “scam or conspiracy theory.”

In 2020 and 2021, McConaughey has been more vocal about politics, and has hinted at running for governor of Texas.

The 52-year-old said that he wants “more information” but said that both and his wife have both received the vaccine.

McConaughey, who has floated the idea of running for governor of Texas, said he’s not against vaccines but just wants “more information” about them.

McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, share three children: Levi, 13, Vida, 11, and Livingston 8.

Actors Matthew McConaughey and Russell Brand sat down on Brand’s UNDER THE SKIN podcast, where the two called out the Left for patronizing working-class and conservative crowds.

“There are a lot on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize and are arrogant towards that other 50%,” McConaughey said.

McConaughey encouraged people to be open to alternative metrics that promote unity rather than hostility.

“What I’ve got to do is define the science behind why they’re [people] valuable, the science behind why they work, the science behind why that doesn’t mean you have to now come over to the proverbial ‘other side,’” McConaughey said.

“Let’s get aggressively centric, I dare you,” McConaughey added. “It’s not a recession, it’s an aggressive move.”
