‘God Is So Good’: Asya Branch Crowns Miss Kentucky Elle Smith Miss USA 2021

By Movieguide® Staff

Miss Kentucky USA 2021, Elle Smith walked away from River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma as Miss USA 2021.

Smith, 23, is a journalist for WHAS-TV, an ABC affiliate located in Louisville.

Smith graduated in May 2020 with a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Kentucky.

Despite her early success in her pageant career, Smith took the opportunity to thank God.

“GOD IS SO GOOD,” Smith wrote on her Instagram page. “I am thrilled and honored to be your Miss USA 2021. I can’t say thank you enough to every single person who has supported me on this journey. Every single comment, every single message and prayer did not go unnoticed.

“To the great state of Kentucky, you will forever have my heart. You believed and loved on me since I was crowned in May and there is no other state I would have wanted to represent on the Miss USA stage,” she continued.

“I head to Israel tomorrow to compete for the title of Miss Universe…I ask for prayers as I travel to represent the United States of America on the biggest stage in the world,” she said.

In a separate post, Smith also shared Romans 8:31 with her nearly 45,000 followers.

“Romans 8:31 ‘What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?’”

Smith will look to compete for the title of Miss Universe 2021 on Dec. 12 in Eilat, Israel.

Miss USA 2020, Asya Branch, crowned Smith at the ceremony after Miss Kentucky bested 50 other contestants.

“I would consider myself a creative, having grown up surrounded by all forms of the arts,” Smith said. “My father is a photographer, so I love all things photography, videography and modeling (hello future career). My mother is a classically trained pianist, so I played viola, piano and sang. Music has been an integral part of my family life thanks to my late grandmother who sadly passed away in 2015 due to cervical cancer. She inspired me to advocate for cervical cancer awareness and prevention, a mission I will continue as Miss USA.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Branch, whose faith was front and center in her 2020 victory:

In 2020, the 23-year old Asya Branch became Miss USA and openly shared her values and steadfast faith in God.

“I rely on my faith wholeheartedly. Your faith will always be tested. It has helped me develop as an individual. I know this is where I’m supposed to be. I’m following in my path and the plan that God has for me in this life. And I believe it is to impact the lives of others, to use my voice to help others. It’s been comforting to know that on good days or bad, I can pray,” Branch said.
