AMERICAN IDOL Alum Shares Faith-Filled Journey to Self-Acceptance

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country singer Lauren Alaina is encouraging fans to grow spiritually in new book, “Getting Good At Being You.”

The AMERICAN IDOL alum wrote the book with her female fans in mind, saying, “I wish I could have read this book when I was 16.”

She also encourages fans to embrace every part of themselves, even if it is a “holy hot mess.”

“My faith is super, super important to me,” she shared in an interview with FOX News, “It’s the foundation of who I am.”

Alaina also discussed her own struggles on her journey to find self-acceptance, saying that she “became a much happier person” after overcoming an eating disorder and loving her body the way it is.

“I think a lot of time in society now, we’re told we’re too much or too little, or too this or too that,” the singer explained. “When, in reality, we’re exactly who we were made to be….if we can learn to accept and love ourselves, life is a lot better.”

According to the publisher description:

With a little bit of country, a whole lot of faith, and a healthy dose of sass, award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina’s debut book, Getting Good at Being You, invites you to take the road less traveled as you step right up to who God calls you to be.

After years in the spotlight on American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, country music star Lauren Alaina has learned a thing or two about fighting self-doubt and feeling at home in her own skin. In Getting Good at Being You, Lauren shares stories about everything from lost loves to getting a nose ring to battling an eating disorder to grieving a loved one’s death. Each story leads to practical tips, take-it-on-the-road strategies, and encouragement for your own personal and spiritual growth.

Alaina also stressed the importance of volunteer work. She mentioned her own foundation, My Kind of People, and talked about the fulfillment she has found through helping others.

“Everyone wins,” she said. “The volunteer and the people you’re volunteering for. Everyone wins…everybody wins when you can give back.”

“Getting Good At Being You” is on sale now!
