Not everything on THE BRADY BUNCH was happy and cheerful for Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on series.

Knight recalled filming one episode in particular — Season 3’s “Dough Re Mi.” Peter had to sing, but it was a rough time for the actor, who thought the show’s creatives were making fun of him.

“That was the bleakest week of my life. I’m having to crack my voice, because I think they’re making fun of how bad I am at singing,” he previously said of the show’s writers.

However, he learned later that wasn’t exactly the truth.

“The writers had no idea that I couldn’t sing; they just had Peter have [his] voice cracking,” Knight shared. “But I’m thinking they’re now pointing out how bad I am at singing.”

He explained in another interview, “No, my voice didn’t change for another four, five years — and it changed more gradually than it was depicted in the show.”

Knight never wanted to be an actor but felt pushed into it to support his family. He was happy when the show ended.

“At least initially because I wanted to go to school. It wasn’t my idea to be an actor, though I was getting so much from it and very much appreciated it,” he said. “I hadn’t decided on what I wanted to do with my life.”

When the show ended, he went back to school half-way through 11th grade and was happy to catch up in time to graduate.

Knight previously said he believes being on the show “saved” him.

“I don’t know how many children from entertainment can say that, in fact, the entertainment industry saved them. It taught me the value of getting along,” he added.

“And I don’t know if I would have learned that if I didn’t have the show to be embraced by and the environment to reflect on me that because it wasn’t at home. I’m a much better person as a result of the experience,” he said.

Today, he’s still friends with his five on-screen siblings.

“It might’ve been 53 years ago that we met, but we’ve been sort of revolving — and evolving — in each other’s worlds for those 53 years,” Knight said. “So we are respectful, close friends and know each other very, very well.”

Now, Knight spends most of his time off the screen. He is an entrepreneur, furniture mogul and CEO of his company, Christopher Knight Home, which sells products at Target, Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond and other stores.
