Actor Dennis Quaid knows that there is a desire for Jesus in Hollywood.
“I realized there was a real thirst for, I wouldn’t call faith films…call them whatever you want. I just call them good movies that people want to see about things that really matter, that people want to see,” the 71-year-old actor told Pastor Greg Laurie in an interview.
“I mean, I go to the movies not to see things [but] to feel things,” he continued. “That’s why I go to the movies. I think that’s why we all do. We like to do it, you know, in crowds too because we ought to feel all of that together, which is just like what we’re doing in church.”
Quaid believes that there’s a spiritual awakening in America that’s even making its way into Hollywood.

He recalled saying on a Zoom call during COVID, “…what I really feel like is going on right now is that we’re going through a spiritual revolution…the whole world is.” And the thing about a spiritual revolution is that “it’s not nice and neat, you know. It’s difficult.”
“I say you got to be careful about what you asked God for, because He just might give it to you,” Quaid continued. “And you’re going to go, ‘Oh, I didn’t mean it like that.’ I guarantee you, you’re going to say, ‘Oh, I didn’t mean that,’ but this goes with the territory, and…people…say they want change, but they are dragged kicking and screaming into it when it occurs.”
As Christians we need to be open to change, even if it’s uncomfortable.
Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” This should be our heart’s cry whether or not we are in Hollywood.
Quaid puts his faith into action, working on projects like I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2 that tell stories people actually want.
Recently he posted a photo of himself and moviemaker Andrew Erwin from the set of I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2, supporting his work in making family-friendly content.
“@andrewerwinofficial makes movies with heart and conviction,” Quaid said in the caption of the post. “He understands how to balance emotion, faith, and authenticity in a way very few filmmakers can. @icanonlyimaginemovie is now in theaters. You are going to love it.”
Movieguide® gave the movie a +4 content score, calling it “a beautiful, powerful, wonderfully acted movie of faith and family.”
It’s in theaters now.
