New York Knicks Trey Jemison wants you to “Lose faith in your plan” and remember that God is doing something greater.

During a recent Instagram Bible study, he shared how God turned a frustrating season of injury into a blessing when he asked his fiancée’s parents to marry their daughter — what he calls a “hilarious story” in hindsight.

“I ended up getting hurt in the summer league. Ankle wasn’t feeling right, and my right hand was completely numb and struggling throughout that time and really just had a terrible summer league,” Jemison shared in the video.

“Suddenly, my plan for how I wanted things to go didn’t go the way I’d worked it out in my mind,” he admitted. “And in my frustration and everything that happened, I still ended up asking her parents, ‘Hey, can I marry your daughter?’ And because my future in-laws are such amazing people, they talked to me, and they were like, of course. They said yes, and it was a great moment in my life.”

“I tell y’all that story because God put on my heart tonight that sometimes your plan doesn’t go the way you wanted,” the Knicks forward continued. “And how you’re working stuff out in your head, how you’re trying to make the whole situation go down, doesn’t even matter. What I need you to do is know it’s going to all work out.”

“I look back eight months ago, I never thought I’d be sitting right here. In the last few summer league games where my ankle was swollen and I can’t feel my hand, and I’m like, ‘God, what’s gonna happen?’ It’s not saying how it’s gonna happen. It’s who happened.”

“God is what happened. God showed up,” he emphasized. “He showed out. And it’s such a blessing that I was able to learn from that; to lose faith in my plan and keep my trust in who is in control and just know that God is in control of my entire destiny. What I thought was gonna happen worked out better than I ever expected.”

Jemison concluded with Proverbs 16:9, which reads, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

Jemison got engaged to Alex Jean Glover last August.

“forever,” Glover captioned a post featuring photos from the moment Jemison proposed.

Like Jemison, we’ve all had moments where our best-laid plans didn’t work out. In those moments, we can either trust God or try to make it happen on our own. Let’s follow the NBA star’s example and recognize that God isn’t done with any of us yet.
