THE MUPPET SHOW TV Special

“Nostalgia hits deep with the Muppet Show Reboot”

What You Need To Know:

THE MUPPET SHOW is a TV special reboot on ABC and Disney+, which brings back the storied program to television and introduces a whole new generation to the franchise. For lifelong MUPPET SHOW fans, there is plenty of nostalgia, comedy and entertainment. As usual, the quality is top-notch, with popstar Sabrina Carpenter as the musical giest who interacts with Kermit the Frog and company. The main drama on this reboot special comes when Kermit books too many guests for the show.

THE MUPPET SHOW reboot is funny and nostalgic, with sweet messgaes. It has a light moral worldview stressing friendship, kindness, teamwork, and cooperation. However, there are some concerning elements. The reboot special has various references to drinking and dating relationships, including mentions of having an affair. There’s also some comical slapstick violence and light foul language. In addition, the special contains references to false spiritual practices, such as mentions of one’s ‘aura’ and ‘chakra’ energy. Also, at the end, although unseen, THE MUPPET SHOW has a reference to a male Muppet wearing a tutu. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.

More Detail:

THE MUPPET SHOW TV Special, airing on ABC and on Disney+, brings back a storied franchise to television screens and may introduce a whole new generation to the franchise. For lifelong Muppet Show fans, there’s plenty of nostalgia and entertainment. The quality is top-notch, as viewers have come to expect from the Muppet franchise. However, those looking for safe, child-friendly viewing may walk away slightly disappointed.

The 30-minute special reunites the Muppet Gang at their old theatre. Kermit runs the show, assisted by his longtime helper, Scooter. They put on a show that will delight their live studio audience. According to Kermit, a lot’s riding on their success. The main drama comes as the lovable frog books way too many guests for the show. Popular and beloved Muppet characters return to the small screen, including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Scooter, Gonzo, Fozzy, and an entire host of others.

The main guest for the episode, serving as the live musical guest, is popular singer and entertainer Sabrina Carpenter. Carpenter is certainly entertaining and does a nice job interacting with the Muppet characters. However, Sabrina in real life is known to be quite provocative and overtly sexual in her concert appearances, as well as for having extremely suggestive and risqué song lyrics. However, this content happily stays out of her performance on THE MUPPET SHOW.

THE MUPPET SHOW TV Special reboot contains a light moral worldview about friendship and caring and is funny, whimsical and interactive. However, it also includes some concerning elements, especially for those with young children. For example, there are various references to drinking and dating relationships, including two or so references to having an affair. The program also has some funny slapstick violence.

However, the TV special has no major foul language, just a minor crude humor reference and use of the word “freakin’ and some usages of God’s name in vain. Also, at the very end, although unseen, there’s a reference to a male Muppet wearing a tutu. There is also a very brief reference to Hell, the demonic place of punishment. In addition, the special contains false religion with reference to some alternative spiritual practices. For example, there are references to one’s ‘aura’ and ‘chakra’ energy.

Overall, though, the MUPPET pilot special is funny and nostalgic, with some sweet messages. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for young children.
