Faith-Filled Undertaker Headlines WWE Hall of Fame Lineup Ahead of WrestleMania 38

WWE icon Mark Calaway, best known by fans as The Undertaker, headlines the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame lineup ahead of WrestleMania 38 on April 3, 2022.

Before the event kicks off, Peacock will air the Hall of Fame ceremony on April 1, in Dallas.

The Undertaker, a Texas native, announced his retirement from the WWE in 2020 after 30 years of wrestling.

“I realized I have taken every physical gift, tool that I have and have used it up,” Undertaker, 56, told the New York Post in 2020. “There’s no water left in the sponge, if I can use that analogy. I’ve rung everything I could get out of that sponge.”

The Undertaker won seven world championships and seven tag team titles in the WWE. Despite his many accolades, Undertaker said that journey back to faith was the most fulfilling part of his life.

Although Undertaker grew up in a Catholic household, he said he lived an “excessive lifestyle.”

“I always knew and believed in God, I just didn’t lead my life that way,” he told Pastor Ed Young at a conference in 2020. “I’ve never put a lot into being a celebrity that that just kind of flies right over my head because that’s just not really who I am. But as you can imagine you get exposed to a lot of different things because of what you do. I lived a pretty excessive lifestyle.”

However, Undertaker said everything changed after meeting his now-wife and fellow WWE wrestler, Michelle McCool.

Michelle already attended church, but Undertaker confessed he wanted nothing to do with it.

“She says, ‘Would you please just come to church with me one time?’ I’m like, ‘Babe, look. I’m gonna walk in there and the rafters are going to start shaking,” he said. “I believe in God, I’m good.”

“She was very persistent and she wanted me to be the man that I could be and that has nothing to do with being the Undertaker,” he added. “She pushed me and I went reluctantly but once I got there… I was getting myself worked up, I was thinking ‘okay all right pastor’s going to see me and he is just going to throw fire and brimstone right at me, and it wasn’t nothing like that.”

In 2020, Undertaker admitted that he is still on his journey to faith but prays and reads his bible more than ever.

“It was the start of of me and my journey and realizing that there was a whole ‘nother part to life that I was missing out on,” he said. “I’m not perfect, no one’s perfect… I’m still in my process. I’m getting there, but I spend a lot more time these days reading my Bible.”
