UNO movie writer Marcy Kelly has signed a deal with Mattel Films to write for all their upcoming game and toy movies.

Kelly has previously worked on a script based on the popular card game UNO for Mattel and a video game adaptation of the movie MEAN GIRLS.

“With a literal toy box of IP to draw from, the chance to create with Mattel would be any writer’s dream, and I’m honored the opportunity was extended to me,” Kelly told Deadline. “It’s been a joy collaborating with a creative team that’s razor-sharp and dedicated to developing these beloved and nostalgic toys’ stories in both relevant and unexpected ways.”

Mattel was equally effusive in their praise of Kelly, with vice president Kevin McKeon saying, “Marcy is a creative force and her contributions on existing Mattel Films projects has been immeasurable. We look forward to continuing our relationship with such a gifted storyteller and emerging talent.”

The family card game Uno will take the form of a television game show after toy company Mattel decided to team up with Propagate Content and LET’S MAKE A DEAL showrunner.

“Uno is the most popular game in the world and is a fixture in pop culture, making it the ideal franchise to build a reality game show” Adam Bonnett, executive producer, Mattel Television, said. “Ben [Silverman], Howard [T. Ownes], Greg [Lipstone] and John [Quinn] have deep expertise in unscripted content and are the perfect partners to help us transform Uno into a television series for the whole family.”

Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Greg Lipstone of Propagate, who produced Food Network’s CHOPPED and the survival show RUNNING WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS, will produce alongside John Quinn, who is in charge of long-running daytime game show LET’S MAKE A DEAL.

Silverman and Owens said: “Uno is a beloved game that has been entertaining people worldwide for generations. We are excited to team with Mattel and John Quinn to translate the game for television, and think The Uno Gameshow will be perfect for family viewing.”

THE UNO GAME SHOW is one of several unscripted television shows in development from Mattel Television, the toy manufacturer’s production branch. Mattel Television is known for Netflix’s BARBIE PRINCESS ADVENTURE and the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE series.

The television show will host four teams who will compete in physical challenges and trivia to become the Uno champion to bring the card game to life for the small screen.

According to Deadline, Mattel has several other projects in development include AMERICAN GIRL, BARBIE, BARNEY, HOT WHEELS, ROCK ‘EM SOCK ‘EM ROBOTS, THOMAS & FRIENDS, UNO, VIEWMASTER, and WISHBONE.
