Dolly Parton Asks Followers To Pray For Victims Of Tennessee Wildfires

Dolly Parton recently asked her fans to pray as her native Sevier County, Tennessee, as they recover from raging wildfires.

“I’ve been keeping up with everything going on with the fires near my home area,” Parton said in a statement posted to Instagram. “It looks scary on TV, but I’m proud of how everyone in the area has pulled together like they always do.

“I’m especially proud of the brave men and women who are working to contain the fire,” the Grace Prize® award winner continued. “I know there are some folks who have been affected, and I hope you’ll join me in saying a prayer for them.”

These fires come just a few years after the 2016 wildfires that destroyed thousands of acres in the Gatlinburg area.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee recently toured the affected area, saying, “We saw a lot of damage. But what you can see from the air is what could have been, except for the coordinated efforts of the professionals that really fought the fire.”

Lee also praised the firefighters and first responders, noting that their responses to the fires improved due to what they learned in 2016.

“That’s the kind of thing that we want to see happen this time, is ‘what can be done better?'” he explained. “Should there be another event — we certainly hope not — but should there be another event, how can we improve on it?”
