Director Dougal Wilson to Helm Upcoming PADDINGTON Movie

Paddington is back!
Director Dougal Wilson is set to helm the third live-action Paddington movie, PADDINGTON IN PERU, which is based on the books by Michael Bond and follows the adventures of the marmalade-loving bear from Peru.
Movieguide® previously honored PADDINGTON (2014) and PADDINGTON 2 (2017) at the Movieguide® Award Gala for their family-friendly and morally uplifting content.
Movieguide®’s review of PADDINGTON 2 reads:
PADDINGTON 2 is a delightful sequel to the 2015 hit comedy. When Paddington the Bear is falsely accused of stealing, the Brown family has to solve the mystery and fight to get him out of jail. The story starts when Paddington finds a wonderful pop-up book about London for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday. However, the book is expensive, so he decides to do odd jobs around the neighborhood to earn the money. Then, when the book is stolen, Paddington is mistaken for the thief. The Browns now have to find out who stole the book to free Paddington.
PADDINGTON 2 is an adorable, entertaining movie filled with family fun. It has a great script, with wonderful acting and animation. PADDINGTON 2 has a strong moral worldview, with strong pro-capitalist elements. No matter what, Paddington tries to do the right thing, with the right attitude. He is a fabulous character for children to see, because he’s always loving, compassionate, giving of himself, and super polite. The entire message is about loving your neighbor and seeing the good in everyone. MOVIEGUIDE® commends PADDINGTON 2 for the entire family.
PADDINGTON IN PERU will be Wilson’s debut feature film as the director takes over the franchise from previous filmmaker Paul King.
“After ten years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure,” King said of the transition. “Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”
Wilson added: “As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington. It’s a massive responsibility, but all my efforts will be focussed on making a third film that honours the love so many people have for this very special bear.”
King said he would stay on as an executive producer and writer for the upcoming PADDINGTON movie.
