VANDERPUMP RULES’ Jax Taylor: ‘Being Married And Having My Child Really Saved My Life’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Former VANDERPUMP RULES star Jax Taylor is opening up about the ways fatherhood changed his life for the better.

“If you ask anybody I know or anyone knows me … I was a partier,” Taylor said of his time before having a child. “All I cared about was partying, doing bad things. And I didn’t [care] about anybody. I was selfish. And I feel like being married and having my child really saved my life.”

Taylor married his longtime girlfriend Brittany Cartwright in 2019. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Cruz, in 2021.

Taylor shared his love of parenting his son, even saying that he and his wife don’t employ any nannies.

“I don’t how much longer it’s gonna last cause now, you know, it’s so hard in the world,” Taylor said. “I’m more on board now [with having a babysitter] because he’s getting a little older.”

He continued, “When he was really young, I just knew I would get a babysitter and we would go out on a date and I would just stare at my phone the whole time.”

That fear of wondering what was happening at home while the couple was out on the town even extends to family.

Taylor shared a story about when his mother-in-law volunteered to babysit while he and his wife had a date night.

“We lasted till 10 o’clock,” he laughed. “We had a beautiful dinner and 10 o’clock rolls around. I’m looking at my wife. It’s almost to the point where it’s almost uncomfortable. I’m looking at her like, I wonder how Cruz is doing.'”

Movieguide® previously reported on the birth of Taylor’s son:

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright recently welcomed their first baby boy and named him Cruz.

“I was probably around five months pregnant when we finally decided on Cruz. Cruz means ‘cross,’ and coming from a religious family I thought that was amazing. I also, of course, think it’s super cute and goes with Cauchi so perfectly,” Catwright tells E! News.

“A lot of people don’t realize that Cauchi is Jax’s real last name. His late father‘s last name is Cauchi so of course we wanted to continue his legacy with our son and family. Michael is Jax’s middle name and his uncle/godfather’s name. As an added plus, Michael has always been my mom’s favorite boy’s name ever so she was so excited,” Cartwright continued.

Taylor echoed their faith in his Instagram post announcing Cruz’s birth.

“I don’t think I have ever been as happy as I am right now, everything else in life seems so insignificant now. I am crying just writing this message. I have the most beautiful son a man could ask for, he’s an absolute blessing from God,” Taylor wrote. He ended his post with emojis of a heart and a cross.

Taylor’s commitment to family is especially important today. Fatherlessness is one of the biggest issues our country is currently facing. Movieguide® previously reported:

Contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith issued a challenge to the Body of Christ to stand in the gap for fatherless families.

“We need a lot of surrogate dads. We have thousands of young men who need mentors, and I don’t think that’s the government’s job. I think it’s the Church’s job to mentor,” Smith told The Christian Post.

“It’s a crisis that we need to wake up to, realize that we’ve got to be a part of the solution, and we have the tools to be a solution and help. Let the Church rise up, and I’m pointing the finger right at me too,” Smith said.
