Hollywood Star Refutes New Age Worldview and ‘Denial of God’: ‘We Have to Go to The Example of Christ’

By Movieguide® Staff

Hollywood actor Harry Lennix, known for roles in popular TV series like THE BLACKLIST, recently starred in a faith-filled movie called NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.

Lennix, who plays a basketball coach in the movie, recently spoke up about the current culture’s view towards Christianity and the dangers of today’s “insistence that there be an abdication of God, denial of God in the name of whatever this is, the New Age, the computer age, of intelligence, of our own humanism.”

“I think there has to be a willingness and a modeling of humility,” Lennix told Faithwire in a recent interview. “That’s really what I think the answer to [our cultural problem] is.”

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE streamed on Pure Flix on Oct. 6 and, according to Lennix, has an important message to share.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the movie, which also stars David A.R.  White, reads:

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a sports drama from PureFlix, and follows former NBA prospect Scott Beck (David AR White) who learns about open tryouts to play professional basketball. Although he is 39 years old and works as a janitor at his former high school, Beck takes the leap of faith and trys out for the team. However, a malicious owner, an ex love interest, and fear of failure are in Beck’s way. Will he trust in God’s plan or his own?

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a heartfelt story of faith and perseverance and features many scenes with powerful moments of prayer. The story is an inspiring story of God’s faithfulness, the importance of a church family, and perseverance through failure. Some sports fans will note some inaccuracies about the sports scenes. However, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is an uplifting, family-friendly story that teaches timeless truths of God’s word and the importance of faith. Movieguide® advises some mild caution for middle schoolers and below for some adult themes.

Lennix said that his answer to the “New Age” worldview is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which reads:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

“I think that it is the humbling [that changes things],” Lennix said. “But we can really only do that through modeling. We have to look at people, we have to look at these characters in these movies. We have to go to the example of Christ Himself, who came in the flesh to be our perfect guide and our perfect example of the benefits of humility.”

“By providing this entertainment,” he added, “we are actually giving a living example of this.”

As a man of faith in Hollywood, Lennix said he recognizes Hollywood’s recent efforts to separate entertainment and religion.

“Theater as we know it — acting as we know it — all of these things arose out of religious festivals back in Ancient Greece, somewhere around there,” he explained. “So I think to separate those two is actually the real radical act. Trying to reunite them in some way is actually, I think, the thing to do.”

Lennix initially considered becoming a pastor a career but said he knows he has a ministry to those around him in the entertainment industry.

“I think it was just sort of a natural evolution,” he said. “My way of doing ministry now is through, I hope, using this gift that God gave me and God gave to others to work together to bring praise and glory and inspiration, relief, to the people who need it most. This [acting] is really the way that I do that.”

“And bring this message of Good News whenever I get the opportunity,” he continued. “We so need it and, if I’m blessed to continue to contribute in this way, then I’m going to do it every time.”

Lennix also encouraged fans by noting that there are still morally sound people in Hollywood.

“Well, not all of Hollywood is the same,” he said. “It’s not all a godless, hedonistic playground. Some of what gave birth to it was the inspiration, the possibilities of using this medium as a way to spread a message, the message, of course, that we’re interested in … in this particular case is the message of the Gospel.”

“Pure Flix and its founders have been very successful with this in spite of all the odds,” he added. “We know that there is a way, and there’s a living example of it going on. So I’d say stay strong, stay courageous, stay humble, and, just like the character Scott Beck, we’ll learn that nothing is impossible.”
