Which New Faces Are Coming to THE SUPER MARIO MOVIE 2?

While Nintendo has revealed at least two new characters who will be central to the plot of the upcoming MARIO MOVIE, other iconic characters from the franchise, like Yoshi and Wario, are also expected to make an appearance.

“THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE was possible because so many people took action and worked together,” Shigeru Miyamoto shared in an interview with The Video Games Chronicle in November. “As a producer, I tried to make sure the team functioned smoothly. Many of the people involved said they’d like to work on the next project as well, so I guess that means we succeeded to some extent?”

“The setting for the next movie is, just as the title says, the galaxy — that’s all I can really say. We’re in the final stages of production now, but I think it’s going to be fun. I usually just say, ‘I’ll keep working on it until it becomes fun,’ so that alone should tell you how confident I am,” he laughed.

While Nintendo had been teasing the sequel movie for a while, it only shared its first trailer last month. This trailer gave a lot of info about the upcoming story, including the Mario video games that will inspire it and the characters joining the lineup. Bowser Jr. and Princess Rosalina were both showcased in the trailer, but fans have many reasons to believe more iconic characters will be added as well.

For example, at the end of the first movie, a Yoshi egg was shown in New York City, suggesting Yoshi will appear in the future. While a synopsis of the movie from a theater in El Salvador suggested that Wario would team up with Bowser Jr. as the main villains of the story.

Whichever characters end up in the movie, the most important thing is that the story remains uplifting and family-friendly like its predecessor. The fact that it was accessible to all audiences allowed it to gross $1.36 billion worldwide and has millions of people around the world excited for its sequel.
