NCIS: ORIGINS star Mariel Molino teased some big shake-ups in the show’s Season 2 finale.
“This case gets very personal, especially for Franks,” she told TV Insider of the upcoming episode’s plot line. “It ties back to Abe Pruitt in a way that forces him to confront a lot of unresolved emotions, particularly around his own brother, so it hits close to home.”
Molino continued, “For the team, that’s difficult to watch. They’re trying to support him but also rein him in at the same time. It creates a real tension between loyalty and concern.”

The team is also having to grapple with the possibility of the Camp Pendleton office being shut down, which Austin Stowell, who plays Gibbs, told TV Insider is his character’s “worst nightmare.”
“I feel like I finally found a home after having my whole world get tossed upside down a year ago, and I finally settled into this place enough to where I feel comfortable. For it to go away would be a disaster,” he said.
Molino also touched on the relationship between her character, Lala, and Gibbs.
“I can’t give too much away,” Molino teased. “But I will say Lala reaches a point where she can’t keep holding back. She’s always been someone who leads with her heart, even when it costs her, and that’s very true in the finale.”
She added, “She puts it all on the line. What he does with that…you’ll have to watch. But it definitely leaves them in a complicated place going into next season.”
In a separate interview with TV Insider, Stowell also talked about their characters’ relationship, saying, “There’s a connection there.”
“The attraction is prevalent and real, and he’s constantly suppressing his feelings for Lala,” the actor continued. “He doesn’t want to jeopardize her or anybody else on the team with his feelings for her and with what could be a relationship there, so, he just squashes it all down, which of course at the end of the day, a powder keg waiting to blow.”
Molino called the Season 2 finale “intense,” explaining that there are “real consequences, real sacrifices, and not everyone comes out of it the same.”
“There’s a lot of action, but what makes the cliffhanger land is the emotional impact. It involves someone we deeply care about, and it leaves the team in a very uncertain, very vulnerable place,” she concluded. “It’s the kind of ending that shifts everything.”
NCIS: ORIGINS’ Season 2 finale premieres May 5.
