Former NFL Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander Shares Salvation Story: ‘I Was Yearning for More’

Former Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders) linebacker Lorenzo Alexander recently joined Sport Spectrums I ONCE WAS segment, sharing the story behind his conversion to Christianity.

Alexander said he gave his life to Christ in 2008 after tragedy struck the team.

“When I decided to give my life to Christ back in 2008, I already had men in my life working on me; great men, Christian men, that modeled it,” he said.

“In that locker room of the Washington Redskins, we had the death of one of our teammates, Sean Taylor,” he continued. “His life ended way too soon, before his time, his death made me have a self-reflection of my own legacy that I was living.”

Despite his success in the NFL up until this point, Alexander said that he still felt empty.

“I was in the NFL making great money, living my dream, but in reality I had a hole in my heart and I was yearning for more,” he explained. “So with that tragedy really pushing me to something that I wasn’t quite sure what it was and the modeling of those men that I mentioned, my teammates, my brothers, I soon found out that that was Christ.

“By the end of that season right before we play Seattle, I gave my life to Christ with Pastor Brett Fuller,” he added. “From that moment on I’ve been walking with Christ trying to become more like him every single day.

“I’ve had my ups and downs but one thing I do know is that Christ loves me unconditionally, no matter what I do,” he concluded.

Since his career in the NFL, Alexander founded ACES Foundation, a flag football league meant to teach young boys discipline and character traits that they can use later in life.

“ACES understands the importance of having a safe and fun atmosphere for youth to be exposed to the game of football in a low contact environment. And through our partnership with NFL Flag we want to bring that opportunity to the Arcadia and South Scottsdale Community. This league will teach youth fundamentals, develop character, forge friendships and an opportunity to compete on a weekly basis,” his website reads.
