Tim Allen’s Daughter Elizabeth Calls Working With Her Dad ‘Surreal’

Acting is a family affair for the Allens. Tim Allen, who is reprising his role as Santa in Disney+’s upcoming THE SANTA CLAUSES, got to act alongside his 13 year-old daughter Elizabeth in the new show.
Elizabeth Allen-Dick called working with her dad “surreal.”
“He was there when I needed help, but he also let me kind of figure it out, too, which I really liked,” she shared.
Elizabeth was originally set to just play an elf in the background of certain scenes, but Allen revealed that she got a bigger role when she impressed the show’s crew with her comedic timing.
“She drilled a very difficult mood joke, and she kept on it all the way through,” Allen said.
Elizabeth ended up scoring the role of Allen’s character Scott’s daughter Sandra.
The teen also shared what she learned from watching her father work on set.
“He taught me a lot of things but one that stuck with me was [about] getting into the character and then adding your little twist to it,” Elizabeth explained. “Being that character, get used to the character, make friends with the character and then kind of add some of your qualities to it and see how you can make it your own.”

It looks like acting runs in the Allen family Tim Allen recently spoke about what it’s been like working with his daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, on THE SANTA CLAUSES.
THE SANTA CLAUSES is part of Allen’s beloved THE SANTA CLAUSE franchise. This latest installment — a 6-episode miniseries — will show Allen’s Santa search for a successor, as well as plan a move for his family from the North Pole to Chicago.
“It’s difficult to believe, but [Allen-Dick’s part] had very little to do with me,” Allen said of his daughter’s starring role. “I wanted to put my youngest daughter as an elf, just so she’d see herself in a movie. But as she was reading for that, she read so well that they said, ‘’We’d like to read her for more of a part.’ I said, ‘Whatever you want to do. I want nothing to do with it. I don’t want to pitch my daughter for a part in the movie.’
“But she ended up moving to the high ranks,” the actor laughed. “They loved how she read, loved it so much, because she’s playing a 13-year-old girl and she is 13. They ended up casting her as Santa’s daughter. It was a surprise but it became the most amazing experience.”
This is Allen-Dick’s first acting role, but her dad had a very good explanation as to why she took to it like a natural.
“The line kept coming back to me, ‘Has she ever done this before?’ And I said, ‘No,’” he explained. “But she’s read scripts with me all the time. We got to play all the time as a comedian. I’m that way around the house. She’s able to take a line, make it her own, add value to it and be honest about it. And it was an amazing experience.”
THE SANTA CLAUSES will premiere November 16.
