Pro Surfer Bethany Hamilton Stands for Truth, Prepares to Welcome Fourth Child

Surfer and book author, Bethany Hamilton, spoke out on Instagram after the World Surf League announced it would allow transgender women to compete in women’s competitions.

“I strive to have love all of mankind, regardless of any differences, [but] this concerns me as a professional athlete who has competed for the past 15-plus years,” Hamilton said. “And I feel that I must speak up and stand up, so here I go.”

“How is this rule playing out in other sports, like swimming, running, and MMA?” she began. “Have any of the current surfers in the World Surf League been asked what their thoughts and opinions are on this new rule before it was passed or announced? Should there be a conversation?”

“Is a hormone level an honest and accurate depiction that someone indeed is a male or female? Is it as simple as this?” she continued. “Who is pushing for this huge change? Does this better the sport of surfing? Is it better for the women in surfing?”

“I personally think that that the best solution would be to create a different division so that all can have a fair opportunity to showcase their passion and talent – and I think it’s really hard to imagine what the future of women’s surfing will be like in 15-20 years down the road if we move forward allowing this major change,” she concluded.

The World Surf League claims to have made this change to align with the current Olympic guidelines.

Hamilton has since announced that she will no longer compete in World Surf League events nor will she support the league going forward if the rule change remains in place.

However, Hamilton has been kept busy with three children and one on the way.

“Feels like the countdown has begun!!! About two months to go before baby comes! Trying to move when I can cause I feel so good during and after,” Hamilton wrote in an Instagram post. “Plus I want to be surfing strong with my children over the long haul! After baby comes I usually reallllly take it easy for the long term health of my body and so I can just enjoy and focus on baby. New born life has never felt easy for me, nursing is a lot and I will just say my newborns haven’t been ‘the easy going ones’, so it requires full focus and rest. I’m not complaining just sharing my journey!”

“I will say as an athleticly driven human it’s hard to slow down and let my body rest. But I know it’s good for me… and I choose to do it! Here is some advice from me-Wherever we are in life – Movement fuels more movement – so take time to move and do something you enjoy! It’s good for you! And rest when you need it!”

Movieguide® previously reported on Hamilton:

Surfer Bethany Hamilton recently posted an inspiring message about leaving her comfort zone and the impact sharing her story has had on others.

Hamilton, a lifelong surfer, lost her left arm in a shark attack. The Movieguide® Award-Winning  SOUL SURFER tells the story of how she got back on the board.

“Living my life so much in the public’s eye has been extremely challenging and yet very beautiful at the same time!” she captioned a recent post. “Receiving letters from people all over the world, saying I inspired them to keep going as they faced their hardship… led me to step outside of my comfort zone to encourage and bless others.”

Hamilton admitted that she initially “wanted to hide on my little island” but decided to “enter into the spotlight” to share her story with others.

“I am so glad I made the decision I did–even when it hasn’t been easy,” she shared.

“God gave me the strength when I was weak,” Hamilton continued. “I am so honored to be able to keep bringing hope to other people. It has been so amazing to see how God has used my life in ways I never imagined!”

“You can be a light to others in your life if you’re willing to step out of your comfort zone too!” she concluded.
