Kelly Clarkson Encourages Young Fan with Cancer: ‘You’re…Not Alone’

While performing on the TODAY Show, Kelly Clarkson met a ten-year-old fan who shared that the singer’s music got through cancer.
“If you ever see Kelly Clarkson again, can you tell her that I’m her biggest fan,” Camilla, the ten-year-old, told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb in a previous interview. “I really love her song ‘Stronger’ because that song actually made me get through my cancer.”
Camilla has been battling brain cancer since she was 18 months old. Parade reported that Clarkson and Camilla previously met via Zoom. The two finally met in person at Clarkson’s Citi Concert on Sept. 22.
When Clarkson saw Camilla in the front row, she hugged her as the young fan began sobbing in her arms.
Following the embrace, Clarkson noticed the Moxy doll in Camilla’s hands—the character that Clarkson voiced in the 2019 movie UGLYDOLLS.
“I love that you love Moxy,” Clarkson said.
“Because she’s my favorite character from UGLYDOLLS,” Camilla explained. “And I’ve been always trying to sing like her because this reminds me of me.”
“Since I was born, when I was a kid, I’ve always been crying because I never knew how it was like to have friends,” Camilla said. “And people think that I’m just bald and sometimes I feel like I’m going to get bullied.”
To cheer her up, Clarkson shared how she felt out of place while growing up, too, encouraging Camilla that it gets better.
“Hey, you know what? I did not fit in either when I was younger, and I think that’s a lot of kids out there,” Clarkson said. “You’re definitely not alone. A lot of use struggle with finding your people, your friends and your school and stuff. And hey, that happens to us all. You are not alone in that, OK? I was the same way.”
“And look at me now,” Clarkson added, showing just how much things can change.
