THE VOICE’s Gwen Stefani Says Faith, Prayers ‘Fuel’ Busy Life

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE VOICE judge Gwen Stefani opened up about her faith and revealed that God helps her through the business of life.

“It’s literally schedule, schedule, schedule. [But] there is a balance,” she told PEOPLE. “For me, the only way that I’ve gotten this far is with my spiritual faith and being able to take time out to pray. You see the miracles, and that’s inspiration and fuel to keep it going.”

Stefani then shared how much her husband, Blake Shelton, has changed her life, including a move to Oklahoma.

“I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake. This was just a big old ‘What?’ It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time,” Stefani revealed. “He’s changed my life…when I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt home, like: ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.’”

“I am not really a dirt person, a bug pers. I don’t like that much humidity,” she laughed, describing their move to the Midwest. “But it’s so beautiful [in Oklahoma], and you kind of feel like you’re going into this vortex. Nature—and God—is all right there.”

She also shared how her new life has allowed her to be there for her kids.

“When my kids were teenagers, I really wanted to make sure that I was home for them—and here we are,” she added.

“We get away from everything [in LA], and we’re just us,” Shelton said of their move. “It truly does feel different. That’s where I feel the most comfortable, happy and safe.”

Although Stefani and Shelton don’t have any kids of their own, Shelton treats Stefani’s three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 9, who she shares with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, like his own.

“I think being a stepdad has changed my perspective in that I’m not the first person that I think about anymore,” Shelton said. “Even to the small little things when you go, ‘I think I’ll do this,’ the very next thought is always,‘Well, wait a minute. How’s that going work?’ Or, ‘What will they think?’ Or, ‘How will that affect a schedule?'”

“They’ve taught me something about myself that I never knew: I’m more than just a country singer or a goofy guy. I’m someone they actually lean on, and that’s not a responsibility that I ever had and not something that I ever considered even being into,” Shelton said his role.

Movieguide® previously reported on Stefani’s faith:

THE VOICE judge Gwen Stefani said that she relies on her faith during hardships.

“For me, I was turning to my faith right away,” Stefani said. “That was a seed that my mom planted in me when I was a little girl … it’s a journey. It’s almost like you get lost, it’s like you get lost on your journey. We all do and we all will and I will again at some point I’m sure.”

The 51-year-old singer-songwriter shared her outlook on life during a virtual interview on the TODAY show.

“I feel like it’s the way you handle things, you never know,” Stefani explained. “You’re gonna be blessed. You got to ask for the blessings. You got to keep engaged. That’s how I believe. That’s how I live my life. I’m getting better at it. It’s something you have to work on. It’s like a spiritual exercise every single day.”
