University of Alabama golf coach Jay Seawell relies on his faith as he leads his athletes.

According to Sports Spectrum, Seawell “took over the program in July 2002, and led the Crimson Tide to back-to-back national titles in 2013 and 2014. In 2016, he was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was a 1988 graduate from the University of South Carolina.”

On Sports Spectrum’s podcast, Seawell discussed how he leans on his relationship with God through life’s seasons.

“When you grow as a Christian you kind of realize how big the cross really is,” he began to explain on the podcast. “But you’re right, life is life. I have a tremendous opportunity to come alongside young people with the pressure to win. You know that I’m a father, I’m a husband, all of those things come. You have an empty nest, which I’ve experienced. I have the death of my dad, who got me into golf. All of these things come, so, what I’ve learned is the emotion of mine will almost always rollercoaster through these waves.”

Through the good times and the bad, Seawell keeps God’s Word close.

“There are great scriptures that are always there,” Seawell expressed. “He does it. He is steady. He is there. He is in the highs. He is in the lows. He’s in your dumbness. He’s with you on top of the mountain moments, and He’s in the valley with you. And in Psalm 23 it says that ‘He walks with you through the valley of the shadow of death.’ I mean He’s always with us.”

The coach also opened up about managing pride.

“If were not careful with ourselves, if were not honest with ourselves,” Seawell said. “Look we can love me some me. That was an old pastor friend of mine who used to say that…You have to be grounded in your…local church, my wife…friends. You have people remind you…because if you don’t you’re going to fall to the trap. We’re not built to be able to withstand that alone. What I love about the Bible…is that even though I’m prone to wander, He is still our God.”

Seawell often uses his social media to share his faith. In a photo he shared on his X page, Seawell wrote, “Each new day brings a great opportunity. God is good! Time to go to work.”
