Sadie Robertson Huff Explains How to Help Friends: ‘Just Be There’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Sadie Robertson Huff recently talked about friendship and how to walk through challenging seasons with others on her “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.
“Learning how to walk through challenges with friends has been so hard. Just figuring out when to be honest, how to talk through things and not even just with my own self but other friends going through situations,” Huff’s sister, Bella Mayo, said.
“One of my closest friends went through a really hard thing this summer, and learning how to be a good friend when there’s really no words you can say,” she continued. “There’s nothing you can do to be the best friend but it’s just hard.”
“That is so true,” Sadie added. “It’s like you’re going through such a real heartbreak, some people for the first time, and it’s navigating how to be there.”
“I will say one of my biggest regrets…was in high school. One of my best friends went through something extremely traumatic, and I did not know how to be there for her,” she explained. “Because I was insecure about how to be there for her, I more so shied away from it, and it really deeply hurt her that I did not learn in with her because she had to go through it. I did not go there like I should’ve with her because it intimidated me. It scared me. I didn’t know how. I was awkward. I was insecure and I regret that so so much.”
From that experience, Huff realized that “really truly just being there is the biggest thing” to help friends who are struggling. “Like showing up, leaning in, trying to listen, trying to understand, just making yourself available in every way possible,” she added.
“The awkwardness inside of you doesn’t really go away,” she continued, “but like the maturity should rise up and go, ‘Even though I feel uncomfortable, I’ll lean in.'”
The Bible frequently talks about the power of friendship. Matthew 18:20 reminds believers, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Proverbs 27:17 emphasizes that good friendships change us for the better.

Sadie Robertson Huff recently reflected on God’s love in a sermon shared on her Live Original Instagram.
“You don’t have to shout your name from the rooftop, and you don’t have to go out and look for this God somewhere,” Huff began. “In every other religion, that’s what you have to do. You have to go find God, but we serve a God who found us. We serve a God that we didn’t have to go to Him.”
“He so loved the world. He came to us,” she continued. “He left the comfort of heaven to position himself on a cross to position himself in a grave so that you could get out of it and live a life. What a story. What a story.”
