10 Powerful Movies For Christians To Share with Non-Believers

By Movieguide Contributor

The Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15, But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. Christians are called to witness to non-believers and share the Gospel of Jesus. This curated Movieguide list offers a collection of films for believers to share with friends and family who may question their faith or seek answers. May the Lord use these movies to soften the hearts of non-believers and encourage those having doubts about their walk.

THE CASE FOR CHRIST

Quality:
****
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
THE CASE FOR CHRIST is the inside story of how Chicago Tribune journalist Lee Strobel set out to disprove Christianity when his wife, Leslie, became a Christian and challenged Lee’s atheist beliefs. THE CASE FOR CHRIST is a terrific drama reminiscent of ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, with its own examples of excellent acting. It also brilliantly lays out the facts confirming Jesus Christ’s resurrection, but does contain some tense moments and alcohol use requiring caution for younger children.

HACKSAW RIDGE

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
HACKSAW RIDGE is a great, emotive, powerful, touching Christian war movie about Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), a courageous conscientious objector who serves as an unarmed medic during the brutal battle of Okinawa in World War II. Brilliantly directed by Mel Gibson, HACKSAW RIDGE is a captivating, emotional movie about uncompromising faith and miraculous courage. It will make you laugh and cry, but strong caution is advised because of bloody violence and some foul language.

GOD'S NOT DEAD

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
GOD’S NOT DEAD is an entertaining, profound, powerful Christian movie about a college student who has to stand up for his faith when bullied by an atheist professor. Despite some of the smartest dialogue ever, GOD’S NOT DEAD entertains viewers as well as enlightens and inspires them. The ending is terrific.

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, Mel Gibson’s masterpiece, covers the time period from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Cross and beyond. The movie goes beyond most Passion Plays to highlight in stark, dark, and intense terms the spiritual warfare raging around Jesus Christ during His Passion. It is a must-see movie, beautifully directed and powerfully acted.

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
Based on a bestselling book, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL tells the true story of a 4-year-old boy who visits Heaven while on an operating table and comes back to talk about his experience. HEAVEN IS FOR REAL is a beautifully made, absolutely enthralling movie that extols Christian faith and God’s love.

90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN is a wonderful faith based drama about a pastor who dies in a car accident, only to come back to life. 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN is well written and directed and extols prayer, faith and miracles in a powerful way. A light caution is advised from young children due to a car crash and some medical injuries.

DO YOU BELIEVE?

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
DO YOU BELIEVE? is an incredibly powerful movie that follows 12 different people through their individual struggles with faith, trial, pain and loss and how the power of the Cross makes each of these lives intersect. DO YOU BELIEVE? is exceptionally well made with great performances and a life changing Christian message, but a light caution is advised for young children due to some mature elements.

UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION picks up where Angelina Jolie’s 2014 movie UNBROKEN ends, but showcases Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini’s faith journey toward Jesus back in America. UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION is an emotionally stirring tear jerker, with great production values and a powerful ending, though caution is advised for older children due to some mature content, such as alcohol addiction.

JESUS REVOLUTION

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
JESUS REVOLUTION is a very entertaining and accurate, though compressed, portrait of the Vietnam protest era of hippies and young revolutionaries who find Jesus because God calls several people to welcome them into the Body of Christ. At its heart, the plot is propelled by a love story between an impoverished young man, Greg Laurie, with an alcoholic mother, and a beautiful young woman named Cathe, from a wealthy Laguna Hills family in Southern California. JESUS REVOLUTION is very bold about showing drug use, communal living, protest rallies, and Christian hypocrisy, but it also has many scenes of intense jeopardy and many scenes featuring inspiring, uplifting, well-written Christian presentations and expressions of the Gospel.

SON OF GOD

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
SON OF GOD tells the story of Jesus Christ’s ministry on Earth, leading up to a powerful telling of His death and resurrection and final message to John in Revelation. The pacing could be a little tighter and the movie leaves you wanting to see more about Jesus Christ’s teaching, but SON OF GOD is a captivating, powerful reminder of the glorious nature of God’s grace and love.
