A new documentary about the First Lady just hit Prime Video on March 9.

Brett Ratner directed the movie.

The movie’s synopsis reads, “An intimate chronicle offers a rare glimpse into the life of Melania Trump, exploring her role as First Lady and her relationship with the President.”

The movie lost money when it hit theaters with a total of $16.6 million in profits but secured the highest documentary debut in 10 years. Amazon bought the movie rights for $75 million.

It has an 11% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score is 98%. The IMDB score is 1.4 stars out of 10.

Part of Movieguide®’s review reads, “MELANIA offers rare access to the First Lady. The movie remains intentionally distant. As such, it favors elegance and restraint over intimacy and spectacle.”

“This approach may leave some moviegoers wanting more relatable moments. MELANIA is notably free of objectionable content. Instead, it underscores values such as family, dignity, perseverance, modesty, and faith.”

It also offers discussion on character and leadership.

“Ultimately, MELANIA works best as a character study and meditation on public life rather than as a political statement,” it adds.

It doesn’t show many casual moments, like Melania in PJs with no makeup, or private dinners with the president. It’s a coiffed and professional look at her life and role as First Lady.

It also explores her grief journey. She lost her mother, Amalija Knavs, in January 2024. She attended former president Jimmy Carter’s funeral on the 2025 anniversary of her mother’s death.

At the time, she said, “my beloved mother will be on my mind.” Her mother was the “richest thread of my life,” she said.

After the funeral, she went to directly to another cathedral to light a candle in her mom’s honor.

She opens up about her “journey as an immigrant” from Slovenia to the White House. Which serves as “a reminder of why I respect this nation so deeply,” Melania said.

“Everyone should do what they can to protect our individual rights,” she continued. “Never take them for granted, because in the end, no matter where we come from, we are bound by the same humanity.”

Melania was interested in the project because she wanted viewers to know her better — so that they don’t create their own definitions of her.

Toward the end of the movie, she said of her role, “As First Lady, the real nobility is becoming stronger than the person I was yesterday.”

The movie is now available to stream on Prime.
