Everyone’s favorite lasagna-eating cat is back!
Tentatively titled GARFIELD, a new 2D-animated TV series is officially in production for Paramount+, bringing the famous orange cat back to television once again. The show will star actor and comedian Lamorne Morris as the voice of Garfield.
“Inspired by the original comic strip by Jim Davis, the series features the chonky feline at his finest, with each episode featuring the pop culture icon’s signature sarcasm and hilarious lackadaisy,” a press release from Paramount+ said of the series. “The series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with Dave H. Johnson (MIDDLEMOST POST) and John Trabbic III (SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, MIDDLEMOST POST) serving as Executive Producers.”
While the series will likely draw new, younger audiences to the iconic character, Garfield’s fame isn’t in danger. There are “over 200 million daily comic readers” of the beloved cat, Paramount said.

Morris took to his Instagram account to announce the news in an edited photo of him holding the cartoon Garfield.
People in the comment section couldn’t contain their excitement.
“My favorite childhood and my young adult tv show character becoming the same person is such a beautiful full circle moment. Congratulations I’m so proud of you,” one fan said. Another added, “Dude! That is a total life achievement unlocked!!!!”
This is far from Garfield’s first TV debut.
A series titled GARFIELD AND FRIENDS ran from 1988 to 1995. Since then, there have been several movies made about the mischievous cat, including 2024’s THE GARFIELD MOVIE starring none other than Chris Pratt as Garfield.
“He was a rebel and kind of an iconoclast, because he was a guy in a world that tells you you’ve got to get up, put your nose to the grindstone, get after it, eat right, be fit. He was like, uh-uh, no,” Pratt said of why people continue to love Garfield. “…he kind of gave a voice to people in the working class who were like, this 40 hours a week thing is tough. You know? So I think that’s why people, adults, liked him so much and I think kids like him because he’s a big orange cat.”
Movieguide® rated THE GARFIELD MOVIE positively, saying, “The best part of THE GARFIELD MOVIE is the father and son relationship. At the end, it is deeply emotive and brings tears. It also has some very funny, exciting moments.”
Paramount+’s upcoming GARFIELD show will be the first series to bring the titular cat to the small screen since THE GARFIELD SHOW, which ran from 2008-2016.
A release date has not been announced yet.
