THE CHOSEN Actors Explain What Makes Their Characters So Relatable

Paras Patel and Noah James explained why they believe THE CHOSEN is so relatable, allowing both Christians and non-Christians to take things away from the show.

“What the show does so beautifully is that it gives you community but also hope in watching that you find yourself in it,” Patel, who plays Matthew, told Movieguide®. “You never know what you need until you see it, right? You never know what you were seeking, and that’s what THE CHOSEN does, and that’s what it does to me specifically.”

James, who plays Andrew, agreed, noting that because there are so many characters on the show, everyone has someone they can resonate with and learn something from.

“It’s really cathartic in that way where there’s so many characters that we dive into so deeply that everyone can find someone and go, ‘Oh, like, maybe I can sort of take something from that. Maybe I can better myself in some way or just deal with tough situations,’” James said.

“And it might not always be the outcome that you want to see, but you’re gonna see how to handle that,” Patel added. “I think with Matthew’s journey, you’ve seen that.”

Season 4 of THE CHOSEN continues with its personal look at Jesus and the disciples as Jesus’ path toward the cross grows nearer. The season’s epic finale focuses on the death and resurrection of Lazarus and the charged emotions that came with it. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

THE CHOSEN: SEASON 4 EPISODES 7-8 provides an excellent, dramatic finish to Season 4. There are many powerful scenes with well-written dialogue that brings out the conflicts. The acting is particularly good. It makes the story and dialogue come alive. Like the Bible, THE CHOSEN: SEASON 4 EPISODES 7-8 uses the resurrection of Lazarus to preach the Gospel. Episode 8 also has a nice reference to the Passover lamb that highlights Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Movieguide® previously reported on THE CHOSEN’s popularity:

Actors Demetrios Troy and Catherine Lidstone, who play brother and sister Mary and Lazarus on THE CHOSEN, recently told Movieguide® why people are drawn to the show’s message and what it was like to be on set in Season 4—an emotional experience.

“People are craving this message,” Troy said about why he thinks THE CHOSEN, one of the most watched shows of all time, has such a strong impact on its audience, “and it’s basic human, you know, themes that people connect to and…not to say that there’s no value in…other…art forms or anything like that, but there’s definitely a message that’s been missing, and people want it. They may not know that they want it, but when they see it, they know they’ve been craving it…You have actors and designers and directors…who are bringing their hearts to the screen, and it shows.”
