Why Candace Cameron Bure Makes Movies All About Faith

By Movieguide® Contributor

Candace Cameron Bure is all about faith.

Before teaming up with Great American Family, the actress starred in numerous Hallmark movies, but she wanted to give her fans something deeper.

“I love that we are bringing stories of faith,” Bure told US Weekly in an interview. “I mean, we have ones that aren’t about faith and more in the traditional like romcom space, but our viewers really want messages that are more meaningful. They love that we say Jesus because, you know, a lot of people celebrate Christmas. We know the reason we celebrate Christmas is because of the birth of Christ and yet so many of our movies and I’ve made tons of them that don’t ever mention the real meaning of Christmas.”

“So just the fact that we mention God or there’s a scripture that’s said or there’s like a Biblical message, or there might be a proverb,” the FULL HOUSE star continued. “Someone might hear it and go, ‘Oh, that’s like really good advice.’ They might not realize it comes from the Bible, but we love putting that in the movies at Great American family, and our audience really, really loves it.”

Bure also talked to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed what entices her to choose certain Christmas films over others.

“I read so many Christmas scripts all year long. I’m looking for something that feels fresh to me and will resonate with the audience,” the actress told the Hollywood Reporter. “Especially for Great American Family channel — where we lean into faith in our movies, and our tagline for the channel is, ‘Christmas as it’s meant to be’ — I’m looking for things that really touch the heart and have more purpose to them than just the magic of Christmas or the Santa Claus of Christmas. As I read scripts, I usually can tell within the first 15 to 20 pages if it’s something that’s going to grab me or if it’s a story I’ve heard a hundred times over.”

Now that Christmas is over, Bure is gearing up for 2025, and she wants you to join her in reading through the Bible in a year.

“I want to prepare you that if you want to read through the Bible in a year to join me again with the Bible Recap,” she posted on Instagram. “It’s hosted by Tar-Leigh Cobble, and it’ll take you through the Bible, reading chronologically.”
