While House Welcomes New Media to Press Briefing Room
By Movieguide® Contributor
The White House press briefing room will welcome new faces as the Trump administration embraces new media platforms.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Tuesday that the Trump White House will welcome “independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers and content creators.”
This move isn’t surprising considering that Trump used new and alternative media during his campaign, appearing on major podcasts like Theo Von and Joe Rogan.
“In keeping with this revolutionary media approach that President Trump deployed during the campaign, the Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities, not just the legacy media, who are seated in this room, because according to recent polling from Gallup, American’s trust in mass media has fallen to a record low,” Leavitt said.
“Millions of Americans — especially young people — have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers to consume their news from podcasts, blogs, social media and other independent outlets,” she added. “It’s essential to our team that we share President Trump’s message everywhere and adapt this White House to the new media landscape in 2025.”
She continued, “In light of these announcements, our first questions for today’s briefing will go to these new media members whose outlets, despite being some of the most viewed news websites in the country, have not been given seats in this room.”
The previous administration “wrongly revoked” press privileges from 440 journalists, a change that the new administration will reverse.
Major political influencers have already jumped on the opportunity.
“Today, I officially registered for a White House Press Credential. Our show beats the corporate media every day in viewers. Thank you to the White House for recognizing the power of independent news. Our audience is real and we speak for the people. What do you want me to ask?” conservative commentator Benny Johnson said on X.
“The Babylon Bee has applied for White House press credentials,” Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon responded on X.
