The Salvation Poem Project is putting out its best effort for its September release, LIGHT OF THE WORLD, with experienced Disney animators.
“LIGHT OF THE WORLD is the film families have been waiting for — something you can watch together, knowing it will clearly portray the truth of Jesus,” said Brennan McPherson, producer of LIGHT OF THE WORLD and president of The Salvation Poem Project, in a press release. “We see this as more than entertainment — it’s a worldwide mission delivered through the medium of classic animation.”
SUPERBOOK’s John J. Schafer directs alongside THE LION KING’s Tom Bancroft. MULAN’S and MARY POPPINS RETURNS’ Tony Bancroft serves as animation director, and McPherson produces.
The movie tells Jesus’ ministry as a young adult until his resurrection, through 2D animation. Jesus’ disciples and the Apostle John are main characters, watching how Jesus transforms the world for the better.
“It has been a tremendous blessing to be part of telling the story of Jesus through the lens of one of his very own disciples,” said Tom Bancroft. “Using 2D animation to convey this narrative promises to evoke nostalgia while delivering a fresh experience.”
The new movie hits theaters on Sept. 25. The trailer just released Tuesday:
Tyndale House Publishers will launch four LIGHT OF THE WORLD products on Sept. 2: two coloring and activity books, a family devotional and “Light of The World: Josiah’s Story.” The Salvation Poem Project also created a free kids’ ministry curriculum for churches available on its website.
The interactive website features a “Meet the Characters” section for those who want to get familiar with the movie’s stars ahead of time.

The cast has yet to be officially announced, but IMDB lists NINJAGO: DRAGONS RISING’s David Kaye as Judas and Adam Kozlick as Matthew.
The Salvation Poem project is a non-profit studio committed to faith-based projects. The organization says “The Salvation Poem” is a 6-line song that shares the Gospel in a creative way. It’s been used to share Jesus with millions of people around the world.
“We want everyone to have the opportunity to know Jesus and to choose for themselves to follow him,” The Salvation Poem Project says on its website. “We are a team of artists who are obsessed with Jesus, and this is our contribution to the Great Commission. With the tools we create, we work with others to deliver those tools into the hands of the people who need them most.”
LIGHT OF THE WORLD tickets will be available to purchase closer to the release date. Those who want to be the first to know when they are available may sign up for text and email notifications on the website.
