Greg Tarzan Davis says starring in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — THE FINAL RECKONING with Tom Cruise “feels good.”

“I’ve had the privilege of joining the first film, DEAD RECKONING, and that was a whirlwind when I got the call from Tom,” he said of Cruise, who he has under “Uncle” in his cellphone.

“We like what you did in TOP GUN: MAVERICK. We wanted to bring you in to this,” Davis said Cruise told him. “We wrote this character for you named Degas because I’m from New Orleans, and it was a French heritage.”

He told Extra TV that he and Cruise have gone through a lot together during the years that led up to the movie.

“When Tom’s not trying to kill himself, we actually can have fun and relax and play jokes, sing songs, dance. But we all love this craft of making movies,” he said. “So when you get people who are the best of the best…you make magic.”

Cruise also guided his performance in doing his own stunts, as Cruise himself does.

“I generally started my career with him. So all I know is doing your own stunt work,” he explained at the red carpet premiere. “So like, when I got to another production, I’m like, ‘Hey, I want to do the route. When I did my stint on GREY’S ANATOMY, I was like, ‘Hey, where’s the body? Give me a scalpel.’”

Davis was a first-grade teacher before he became an actor.

“One of my students said, ‘Hey, what did you want to be when you got older?’ And I was like, ‘I want to be a teacher.’” Davis joked, “Get out my face, little kid. And I was like, ‘Man.’ So they said, ‘What do you really want to be?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I wanted to be an actor.'”

He set a limit — two years — for how long he thought it should take to make it in LA.

That was “foolish,” he says. “Never put a time limit on your dreams,” he advised.

Davis doesn’t know about ever leading the MISSION franchise in the future.

“MISSION is Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise is MISSION. This is his baby, one of the first films he’s produced. It’ll be hard to see MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE without Cruise being attached to it.”

Davis and Cruise may work together again soon. This new movie will not finalize the film franchise, according to the latest news. MISSION director Christopher McQuarrie told Fandango that he and the writing team already have ideas for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 9.
