Candace Cameron Bure’s son, Lev, recalled a period of his life when doubt crept into his faith and how being rooted in the word allowed him to overcome these questions.

“Ironically, my greatest struggles with doubt were when I was studying the Bible more intimately than I ever have in my life,” Lev said. “So it started with a class about creation. I grew up with with one view of creation, and the class would present all the different possibilities that Christians have taken about creation over the years.”

“And then it kind of just made me think like, man, if there’s so much diversity in belief about this one little thing, what does that say for the rest of the Bible, as well, and it’s validity and its truth?” he continued. “And I went on a whirlwind of emotions and doubt, and it really just made me think. But…I got back to being rooted and secure in those foundational beliefs and working from there.”

While doubt is a scary part of any Christians journey and is a means the enemy uses to drive people from God, it is nonetheless something that most Christians will encounter sometime in their life as something causes them to question their faith. However, the Lord wants us to bring our doubts to Him and find answers through His word rather than seeking truth on our own where it does not exist.

“I’ve always said and encouraged if you doubt, talk to God about it,” Candace said in a previous episode of her podcast where she discussed doubt with her son. “God’s not going to be scared of your doubt. You don’t make Him nervous. He’s not going to leave you or not love you.”

The Bible even has stories that highlight characters’ feelings doubts and shows how God works to soothe their questions instead of allowing them to remain in confusion. The apostle Thomas, for example, was highly dubious of Jesus’ resurrection until he touched the places on Jesus’ hands and feet where the nails had passed through to attach Him to the cross.

“Then He said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe,” Jesus says in John 20:27

Lev’s experience is one that most Christians can relate to. Those who doubt should follow his example, too, turning to the Lord and finding peace in the fundamentals of the faith.
