Christian singer and songwriter Phil Wickham just secured a significant milestone in his music career.

The Grammy winning artist reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the very first time, thanks to his song “What an Awesome God” reaching the No. 100 spot this week.

The single is a new rendition of the classic Rich Mullins’ 1988 “Awesome God” and was first released in April as the lead single from Wickham’s latest album Song of the Saints, which dropped in September. The song has been gaining popularity since its release.

Wickham sings in the pre-chorus:

Take a look at those stars
He can name them all
Before His throne every knee falls

The angels have to praise
Even the winds and waves obey

RELEVANT reported that this is “the fourth Christian song to cross over this year, joining Forrest Frank’s ‘Your Ways Better’ (No. 61 in May), ‘Lemonade’ (No. 77 in August), and Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll’s ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah,’ which peaked at No. 40 in May.”

In wake of his new album, Wickham announced his upcoming tour.

“So excited to share that this spring I’m headed to 24 cities around the country for the Song Of The Saints Tour!” he posted on Instagram. “I believe God is going to do amazing things through these nights, and I can’t wait to lift up praise to heaven with every one of you! I’m also so honored to have the amazing @taurenwells out on this tour and special guest @jamiemacdonaldmusic Both of these artists are such incredible worship leaders and are going to bring so much to these nights.”

He’s grateful to headline the tour and hopes it helps people encounter God.

“You guys, I am so thankful right now, genuinely so honored and excited. I just heard from the team that we have already sold 20% of the tickets for my next tour,” he said in a video. “One of the nights is going to sell out it looks like in the next couple days, and it’s not about the numbers, but just to be honest, this is my first headlining arena tour.”

“I’ve done tours in arenas, but this is the first one where I’m like the headlining artist. I had some butterflies about it,” he admitted, “and we just stepped forward in faith, like truly got to a place, like, ‘Lord, whatever you want to happen, Lord, I’ll be there, and I can’t wait to preach Jesus whether it’s 20 people or 20,000 people. I’ll sing about you, and I’ll preach you and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do.'”

People shared excitement about the tour in the comment section.

“God is on the move! See you in Baltimore! ❤️” one person said. Another person added, “The Holy Spirit is moving in hearts through your music. 🎶 I just got 5 tickets for Estero Florida!”

Mark 16:15 says, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation,” and that is exactly what Wickham does as he shares the love of God through his music.
