Danny Gokey explored the Old and New Testaments to show that Christians should chase after wisdom — not the follies of this world like money or fame.
“Paul says something interesting from the New Testament that we are going to reference from the Old Testament. He says this right here in Ephesians 5:15-17, he says, ‘See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise redeeming the time because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise.’ He says it again, ‘but understand what the will of the Lord is.’ Wisdom is really important to Paul,” the AMERICAN IDOL alum said.
“Proverbs 3:13, ‘Joyful is the person who finds wisdom.’ Well, let’s find out why. ‘For wisdom,’ check it out, ‘is more profitable than silver. Her wages are better than gold. And wisdom is more precious than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with her.’”
“That’s interesting, in this day and age we desire money, we desire fame, we desire wealth, we desire cars, bigger houses, but Paul is saying, no, no, no, you got it backwards. ‘Wisdom offers [you] long life in her right hand…’” Gokey continued. “It’s interesting to me how people who chase after things are never satisfied…And it literally depletes them of the energy and the love that they could be pouring into relationships and into our father in heaven. You gotta hold onto wisdom tightly and you have to embrace because it’s a tree of life.”

Gokey has long used his platform to encourage his followers to find their strength and purpose in the Lord, rather than the things of this world. Despite being a successful musician with a sizable platform, the singer remains rooted in God, understanding that peace only comes from Him.
While still in his 20s, Gokey lost his wife during a surgery for a heart condition. While losing his partner was extremely devastating, he clung to Christ and continued on with his life. Because of this, he understands just how valuable a strong relationship with the Lord is and how important it is to weather life’s hardest times.
“When you walk through difficult times and hope is like a lifesaver to you, it tends to naturally bubble up out of you,” Gokey previously said. “What’s in us comes out of us. I’ve seen God move in my life, I’ve seen God help me pull through significant losses and through different seasons of anxiety and depression and everything that brought me out was always hope. When people lose hope, they lose their reason to live.”
It is amazing how Gokey continues to work for the Lord and point his followers to Christ at every opportunity, keeping them rooted in truth rather than allowing the world to speak into their lives.
