Savannah Chrisley just shared a startling statistic about Gen Z’s feelings about church — and how she plans to combat it.

“A friend of mine shared a stat with me that 77% of Gen Z don’t believe in their churches or church leaders,” she said in a recent Instagram video. “They don’t have any faith in them, which was, like, shocking to me. 13% of Gen Z-ers attend church on a regular basis, which is an insanely low number. That tells us we have a lot of work to do.”

Chrisley continued, “A lot of youth is misguided. We live in an era where it’s cool to be naked and provocative on social media and have an OnlyFans and all these things, when in reality, we just have to bring the church and God — well, really, we have to bring God back into the churches and back into families, classrooms, marriages, all these places. So that’s something that I’m striving to do.”

While the statistic Chrisley shared might be disheartening, many others have remarked on the surge in Christianity among Gen Z.

A 2023 Barna survey found that “overall, two-thirds of teens (65%) and nearly half of young adults (48%) in the U.S. identify as Christian.”

“Just shy of one in four teens (22%) worldwide is a committed Christian,” the survey continued. “In the U.S., this rises to roughly one in three (32%).”

One young person told Vox, “I did not grow up going to church. My family never went to church when I was younger, but I always had questions and felt like something bigger was out there. So as soon as I could drive myself, I went to church and started looking for those answers.”

“I understand why a lot of young people are actually going back to religion,” another young person shared. “It’s because there’s no other place to turn to in order to see what’s wrong with life.”

In a report conducted by the UK’s Bible Society, they “found that the Church is in a period of rapid growth, driven by young adults and in particular young men. Along with this, the Church demonstrates greater ethnic diversity than ever before.”

Both within and outside the Church, young adults are more spiritually engaged than any other living generation, with Bible reading and belief in God on the rise,” the report continued.

Chrisley’s statistic about Gen Z’s faith in their church leaders might be troubling, but it’s clear that more and more young people around the world are putting their trust in God.
