Russell Brand is encouraging Christians to boldly proclaim their faith in a culture that is “steeped” in evil.

“There’s a revival happening. This isn’t the time to be frightened,” he told the audience at a recent speaking engagement. “This is the time to no longer deny His holiness and His greatness. That not only is Jesus Christ real, but the devil is real, and the devil has his hands on the levers of power, and we must be mindful of that.”

Brand continued, “We are made in His likeness. The human face is His hallmark and His signature. We must honor and revere and love one another, but we must refute and repudiate evil wherever we find it, and the culture is steeped in it.”

“Be bold from the pulpit,” he told pastors. “Be bold among your congregation.”

Brand has spoken about how his conversion to Christianity helped him in his struggle with substance abuse.

“You can get attached to and addicted to anything…unless your personal identity is surrendered to a higher purpose, most obviously and notably, Christ Jesus,” he told Sean Hannity during a recent episode of his podcast.

Brand continued, “Contending with addiction is at the forefront of my life, continually. Now, since becoming a Christian, I recognize that many of the principles that were made clear to me in twelve-step recovery reach a kind of fulfillment, continuation and elevation of what I was already experiencing. I said to myself, this is what you’re looking for. This is the direction to continue.”

In a video posted to his X account, the actor shared, “Addiction is an attempt to sanctify and make spiritual the material; that our thirst for God and our hunger for the holy is so strong that you have to have God,”

Brand explained that the escape that chemical substances might give you is really the end of “[finding], one by one, that the false idols can never give it to you.”

“Addiction is the soul’s attempt to make the material feel holy — to fill a God-shaped void with pleasure, fame, or chemicals,” he captioned the post.

In a 2023 interview with Tucker Carlson, Brand said, “Like many desperate people, I need spirituality. I need God, or I cannot cope in this world. I need to believe in the best in people.”

Brand’s recent comments are a reminder of the power of faith in our lives and how important it is to stand strong in that faith.
