In a new video on YouTube from “NFL on ESPN,” Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen revealed how his wife, Hailie Steinfeld, taught him, “I am more than a football player.

Allen was asked, “What’s the most fulfilling thing in your life right now?”

He quickly responded, “My wife. My wife is an unbelievable, undeniable rock star in her work, in her life as a person. She’s everything that I need in my life.”

Then Allen revealed what she had taught him.

“Maybe that I am more than a football player. My whole dream as a kid, you know, has been to be in this position,” Allen revealed. “And I’ve never thought of anything outside of that or beyond that. And, you know, I hopefully I get to still play this game for a very long time. And that’s ultimately my goal—to play this as long as I physically can. Um, but there is life after it as well.”

Hailie hasn’t just taught Josh something. He has also taught her “how to slow down.” One thing that Josh is good at is being where his feet are at.

“Not too often do I think about this or have answers really to this, but I think it’s just how I was born and raised in the middle of nowhere, right?” Allen said. “Growing up with my siblings and having them as basically my only friends because we lived out in the middle of nowhere, going to the back of the shop and just grabbing rocks and trying to throw them into a big dumpster, you know? Like that’s as simple as I can think of life.

“Getting to live out my dream each and every day is just like—I don’t know. I think it’s pretty cool. And I get to understand that what I do is not normal,” he added. “But I’d also be content with a different part of my life, however that may have looked, because again, as a kid I dreamed of being right where I am, and I’m here now. And it’s—I don’t know. It’s just making me get all deep and sentimental now.”

Allen is on a mission to win a Super Bowl, but that’s not the reason he gets up in the morning. Allen knows his purpose in life is much greater than football.

“I want to play well. I do everything throughout the week, game-plan, preparing to play well, but sometimes the ball bounces the other way, and God’s timing is always right,” Allen declared. “And that’s what I’m going to continue to tell myself. And when that opportunity comes and when it’s prepared for me from the man upstairs, it’ll be the right time.”

Josh Allen has learned a thing or two this year, and it’s not on the football field. With his recent marriage to actress Hailie Steinfeld, Allen has learned that he is more than just a football player.
