Candace Cameron Bure opened up about what being a stay-at-home mom taught her about success.

“I’ve been acting since I was 5, and then took that break from 20 years old to 30 something,” Bure said on her podcast. “Those 10 years that I was with my kids drastically changed my purpose in life, because that’s when I got very real with God and started spending time with Him every single day and learning the Bible, learning His words.”

She continued, “When I went back into entertainment in my early 30s, my whole purpose in the workplace completely changed, and it was like…this isn’t about climbing the corporate ladder. It’s not about my next job or what TV show am I going to be on next. Like, I would like those things, but it’s not my purpose.”

During that time with her children and growing in her faith, Bure discovered that her value isn’t measured by her worldly success. Instead, it comes from how she loves others and shares the good news of Jesus.

“Who can I talk to about Jesus, that became my purpose, and then everything else, all of…the competitive nature, even whether I’m achieving or failing goals I set out to do, they just became less important,” she said.

To live this out practically, Bure began to pray this: “God, where would you have me today? What people am I going to meet today? Who are you going to put in my path?” adding, “And whether that is picking up my kids from school or standing in the grocery store line or being on the set next to a super famous A-list person, who are you putting in my place that I can just share with them about you?”

She shared examples of how she and other can do this.

“I can just be a light in my mannerisms,” she said. “I can be encouraging to them, and they would just see something in me that felt like true, rooted joy, and would ask about it, you know, things like that that becomes your purpose and life just becomes less stressful.”

By doing this, Bure lives out Jesus’ command found in John 13:34-35: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

In other news, Bure has a new Great American Family Christmas movie in the works: ONE MORE CHRISTMAS.

“ONE MORE CHRISTMAS is about marriage, family, and the beauty of second chances,” the actress said. “It asks the question: what if you could have a do-over — but this time with maturity, faith and a deeper understanding of who you are and who God is at the center of it all?”

We’re grateful for Bure’s reminder to show Christ’s love to others no matter what we do or where we are.
