Former NFL WR Golden Tate joined the Sports Spectrum podcast where he discussed how he knew when Jesus began to take over his life.
“How I knew that I started to know Jesus is when I get in environments where I’m talking about my football life and what life was before, and I can’t help but to just be thankful for the grace that he’s given me,” Tate declared on the podcast. “And there was a moment where I thought that was me scoring those touchdowns. That was me putting that work in. But now that was Jesus giving me gifts, and that was Jesus giving me a clear mind to go out there and try to maximize my gifts, even though I didn’t think I was doing it for him.

“And so I’m always drawing like analogies to like what’s going on in life now, to like what God wants,” he continued. “And so that’s how I’m maneuvering now, he’s literally my everything. He is what I depend on for my happiness, when I need direction on how to lead my family, what I should say, when I need wisdom, and when I need words to speak about him, when I don’t know what to say.”
Tate now spends most of his time analyzing the NFL on his podcast, The Fade With Golden Tate. If he isn’t doing that, then he’s spending his time with his wife and three kids.
In July, Tate and his wife, Elise, shared a joint Instagram post about their kids’ experience at a Christian summer camp.
“There’s nothing that could have prepared my mama heart for this day. Our kids went to Deer Run Christian camp for their second year in a row and they are already begging to go back,” the couple wrote. “Every day, starting on Monday, Londyn came home talking about how she wanted to be baptized…we talked through it, I was cautious to make sure she understood the importance of this decision, and then I would drop it.
“Tuesday, she came home – same thing, more discussions, and just adamant about being baptized, wed/ thurs same thing. Thursday night, I got a call from camp saying Londyn had signed herself up to be baptized on Friday and they were calling for our permission,” the couple continued. “I nearly cried and said OF COURSE…. we dropped everything and headed up to camp and got to witness the most special moment with family and friends. I’m so proud of her, and HER decision. It was really special. Her friends and siblings were so overjoyed to witness as well. God is GOOD!”
Tate knew that Jesus had begun to infiltrate his heart when his conversations turned from him to Jesus. Tate realized that it wasn’t him putting in the work or scoring touchdowns; it was God working through him.
