For author and speaker Lisa Harper, “trusting that our God is good” gets easier with time.

“I always go back to Job,” she told Kirk Cameron during an episode of TAKEAWAYS. “Right there, at the beginning of his story, he loses everything — his health, wealth, [and] most importantly, his children. And then his response is unbelievable. His response is ‘I ache.’ Then the exact same verse, it says, ‘And he worshipped.’”

Harper continued, “So you can have a broken heart and raised hands at the exact same time.”

“Trusting that our God is good, it’s easier for me now at 61, because I can look back over 55 years of walking with God, and I can see He’s pulled me out of every pit I’ve dug myself,” she explained. “I’ve never seen His back. He’s always been faithful. It’s more difficult to trust His goodness when I’m looking ahead.”

Harper concluded, “There is an element of faith that is trust in what we can’t see.”

Through her work as a public speaker, podcaster and author, Harper encourages others to dive deeper into scripture.

Her 2025 book A Jesus-Shaped Life: How Diving Deeper Into Theology Can Transform Us And Our World With The Radical Kindness of God, is an “unintimidating invitation to greater intimacy with God,” per a description of the book.

“This is a very personal, passion-fueled project for me,” Harper wrote in an Instagram post. “it’s a deep dive into the beauty and adventure of theology. Now before you scroll to another post because your brain tends to associate the word ‘theology’ with old men hunched over ancient text books in dusty offices —hang with me! I promise sound, biblically informed theology is the antithesis of boring, y’all! It’s exciting and life-giving and frankly, theology is meant to be lived much more so than learned.”

She continued, “So if you long for more intimacy in your relationship with Him, you want to explore this divine love letter called the Bible at a deeper level, you feel called to be a carrier of God’s grace not just a consumer, and/or even if you feel like you’ve got tire tracks on your heart this season and you’re desperate for renewal this could be just the retreat/revival/spiritual reset you’ve been hoping for!”

Harper is currently on tour, making stops in cities all over the country through December.

“This tour is all about connecting with people in a real, joyful, and transformative way,” she said in a statement about the tour. “We’ll laugh, learn, and explore Scripture together in a way that’s engaging and deeply heartening.”

Harper’s recent remarks are a reminder that the longer your relationship with God is, the deeper your trust in Him will be.
