Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia announced that he and his wife, Kayla, are grieving the death of their newborn daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia.

“Our little angel, we love you forever & you’re with us always,” Vesia wrote in a Nov. 7 Instagram post alongside a black and white photo of their baby’s fingers wrapped around their hands. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”

The pitcher thanked the Dodgers organization, family, friends and fans as he and his wife navigate the devastating loss.

“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” the pitcher wrote. “Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”

“Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible,” Vesia concluded the post.

Many people commented on the post to offer their condolences and prayers for the Vesia family.

“Sending all my love, brother ❤️,” former MX and SX racer Adam Cianciarulo said.

Fellow baseball star Mike Trout commented, “We’re all here for you, man. Thinking of you and your family and sending all our love.”

Madisson Hausburg, who has experienced a stillborn birth, wrote, “Kayla and Alex, I am so sorry for your loss of sweet Sterling. She will live on through you and will always be remembered. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any resources or just a fellow loss mom to lean on. Sending you and your family so much love.”

In April, Alex and Kayla announced the addition of their new baby.

“Baby Vesia coming soon, we are beyond excited for this next chapter!” the couple wrote in a joint post on Instagram.

Ahead of the World Series, the Dodgers announced that Vesia was taking some time away for “deeply personal family matter.”

“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the Dodgers said in an Instagram statement. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”

Please pray for the Vesia family as they grieve the unexpected death of their baby girl.
