Alexa PenaVega had to untie her identity from her work when she found Christ; now she knows who she really is as someone who belongs to God.

“I was having this battle of I love acting; this is all that I’ve known since I was 4 years old, and now I have found this relationship with God,” she said in a recent interview.

When she became a Christian, she realized she had to set boundaries. She had lived her life trying to please others, and now the only one she wants to please is God. It dawned on her that her job was interwoven with her identity — and it wasn’t good.

“Suddenly, I was feeling uncomfortable. The language, the content was a little more sexual…You’ll kind of notice in my career…‘That’s when she found the Lord,’” she laughed.

It wasn’t an overnight realization, but it happened over time as she began to feel that she wasn’t representing Christ well.

One of the first steps that PenaVega took to restructure her identity in Christ was leaving Hollywood.

“My job became my identity. God pulled me out of that so I could learn how to be an awesome mom and an awesome wife. God helped us build that foundation in our family. And once I had that revelation, I felt at peace,” she previously told Fox News.

The SPY KIDS star came to know Christ when she was invited to a Bible study in LA. That’s also where she met her husband, Carlos.

“We were both just in a heavy part of our lives. And being able to go in there and not looking for anyone, but really looking for God,” she continued. “Our whole relationship ended up being founded just in our faith.”

Once she knew the Lord, she felt “immense peace” knowing that she’s a child of Christ.

“I know what he thinks of me,” she explained. “He knows who we are supposed to be. He knows who he created.”

On the “Jesus Calling” podcast, PenaVega said, “I feel like a lot of times it’s painted as like your life is going to be so perfect after you become a Christian. And what actually happened for us was life actually got way harder when we became Christians, but everything was more peaceful and everything made more sense to us, like, we actually felt more complete.”

The PenaVegas have been through a lot of painful trials, but they know that no matter what comes their way, they’ll stay rooted in Christ and his peace.
