Tinker Bell hasn’t lost her magic. The iconic fairy who first appeared in the original 1953 PETER PAN is set to return in a new live-action series which will stream on Disney+.

The series, titled TINK, is currently in development and aims to expand the story of the beloved character.

Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter will write and executive produce TINK. The show is intended to be a high-quality fantasy drama rather than a simple remake of earlier Disney stories. Additional executive producers include Gary Marsh and Quinn Haberman, working through Disney’s television studio 20th Television.

Heldens is currently working as a co-showrunner on the ABC series WILL TRENT. Some of her earlier projects include BOSTON PUBLIC, the medical drama MERCY, the crime drama DECEPTION and the science-fiction thriller THE PASSAGE. She has also been involved in the series CAMP and THE BIG LEAP. In addition, Heldens served as an executive producer for THE ORVILLE on Fox and THE DROP OUT on Hulu.

Since 1953’s PETER PAN, Tinker Bell has appeared in numerous other Neverland-inspired movies and shows, including 2003’s PETER PAN, the animated show THE ADVENTURES OF THE DISNEY FAIRIES, which ran from 2010-2014, 2012’s SECRET OF THE WINGS and 2023’s PETER PAN & WENDY, which saw Yara Shahidi play the fairy.

Of 2003’s PETER PAN, Movieguide® said, “the movie is very moral. It supports families, loving one another, innocence, fathers, and has lots of wonderful messages about growing up and other important issues…everything in the film works together to produce an entertaining movie that passes too quickly.”

Long one of Disney’s most recognizable characters, Tinker Bell was originally created by J. M. Barrie for his book Peter Pan.

The upcoming TINK continues Disney’s never-ending efforts to remake older animated classics in to live-action content.

“Remaking Disney classics is an easy way for the company to print money at the box office,” Business Insider reported of the entertainment giant’s strategy. “They’re four-quadrant films, meaning they’re films that appeal to men and women below and above 25. Disney was able to deliver something nostalgic for fans of the originals while offering something new for young children, many of whom may be children of fans who grew up with the originals.”

Some other live-action remakes — and there’s a lot — include ALADIN, THE LITTLE MERMAID, THE LION KING, CINDERELLA and THE JUNGLE BOOK, among many others.

A release date for the new live-action series TINK has not yet been announced, so stay tuned for more updates!
