AMERICAN IDOL contestant Hannah Harper delivered a powerful rendition of Chris Tomlin’s hit single “At the Cross” during the show’s “Song of Faith” episode.
After the performance, Harper told show host Ryan Seacrest that this song was an “opportunity to give an invitation” to Jesus.
The lyrics to the song read:
At the cross, at the cross
I surrender my life
I’m in awe of You
I’m in awe of You
Where Your love ran red
And my sin washed white

By the end of her performance, the world could see Harper become emotional.
“Another night of worship and I’m still just… overwhelmed. The Spirit was THICK in that room tonight,” Harper wrote in a post on social media. “Thank each and every one of you who took the time to vote for me it truly means more than I could ever put into words.”
Harper concluded her post with the Bible verse, Psalm 34:3, which reads, “Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.”
The judges have been in awe of Harper throughout her entire time on AMERICAN IDOL.
“From the beginning, you’ve been one of my absolute favorites,” Underwood told Harper after she sang “At the Cross,” per Church Leaders. “I loved your version of that. I could feel your heart in it, and I was right there with ya.”
“That was with such a purity that it was fantastic,” judge Lionel Richie also said. “That was so spectacular.”
Richie then declared that he believes the season’s winner is going to “boil down to just uniqueness of style because the talent is across the board.”
“Give it more of everything you have,” Richie told Harper.
Luke Bryan added, “It was just perfection to me. It roped me in. Everything about that, I totally bought into it, heart, mind, and soul. I mean, just, way to go.”
Last year was the first time AMERICAN IDOL presented its “Songs of Faith” episode. The producers were wary of the response the show would receive, but one year later and its made a return.
“It was a discussion that started at a dinner with the judges, some people from ABC, and myself,” Idol showrunner and executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick said in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“We watch myriad Christmas specials. We don’t ever see a faith-based spring Easter-style show. So we kind of embraced that. It was a special show, and people loved it; the ratings were pretty amazing,” she added.
Hannah Harper delivered a heartfelt performance of “At the Cross” that not only showcased her vocal talent but also gave her an opportunity to share the name of Jesus with millions of people.
