The movie opens with a quote from Roman philosopher Cicero, who wrote in 45 B.C., “The celestial order and the beauty of the universe compel me to confess that there is some excellent and eternal Being who deserves the respect and homage of man.”
Two dozen experts, led by Dr. Meyer and including top working scientists, engineers and philosophers, discuss three topics.
First, they discuss the beginning and origin of the universe. They show scientifically that the universe had a beginning. As such, the universe could not have created itself, but had to have a Self-Aware Intelligent Designer, or Conscious Personal Mind, outside of it to cause it to begin out of nothing.
Second, they discuss the many complex ways in which the universe is so fine-tuned that it seems deliberately designed to “allow for the possibility of life.” Many atheist scientists or anti-supernatural, materialistic humanists have acknowledged that the universe is incredibly fine-tuned to permit life. However, they posit that our universe could be the result of an infinite or nearly infinite “multiverse” that eventually led to the creation of at least one or probably several universes that could sustain life, especially intelligent life. The movie shows, however, that even a multiverse would still require an incredible amount of fine-tuning by an Intelligent Designer who exists OUTSIDE the multiverse. In fact, in the movie, Mathematician David Berlinski, author of THE DEVIL’S DELUSION and an agnostic on the origin of life, says the multiverse theory is an unsound theory that belongs in a Hollywood movie, not a scientific text.
Finally, the experts discuss the complex makeup of the cell, including its DNA, which is too minutely detailed and intricate to have been created by “natural” processes alone. Thus, it must have been created, and must be sustained, by an Intelligent Designer, a Conscious Mind, or Personal God. In fact, the movie argues that DNA is so complex that it has codes within codes within codes. So, it’s far more complex than our most sophisticated computer.
