Decades ago, when TV channels went off air for several hours in the evenings, many channels concluded their daily broadcasts by playing “The Star Spangled Banner” alongside a montage of patriotic footage, Remind reported.
“Then, as the final ‘… and the home of the brave’ lyric tailed off, the channel might explode into staticky white noise that would hiss all night long, until sign on the next day, or perhaps go right into color bars and test patterns accompanied by an unbroken and almost hypnotic ‘wooooooooooooo’ noise for hours on end,” writer Jeff Pfeiffer recalled.
Great American Family wants to bring that tradition back.
“There was a time when television brought us together in a different way. For a moment, across the country, we paused and listened to the National Anthem every day,” GAF wrote in a recent Instagram post. “At Great American Family, we’re bringing that tradition back.”
The caption continued, “We’re inviting individuals and groups across the country — churches, schools, choirs, military families, and communities — to share YOUR rendition of the National Anthem.”
People in the comment section shared their excitement about the news.
“I absolutely love that you are bringing the Star-Spangled Banner tradition back!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️USA! 🇺🇸 Brilliant!!” one person said. Another added, “Love this! What a wonderful and patriotic way to honor our great nation every morning!”
It looks like GAM will bring this tradition back in a new way, reminding Americans of the values that should unify us.
