A Tale of Two Docs

One of MOVIEGUIDE®’s favorite movies this spring is the Ben Stein documentary EXPELLED, which dares to expose the evolutionary academic community. Though most other secular movie critics blasted the movie, the real critics (the moviegoing public) “voted” the movie into tenth place in box office receipts the first weekend with a respectable $3.2 million.
That’s a spot that documentaries rarely hold. By comparison, Morgan Spurlock, the SUPER SIZE ME director, launched his anti-American movie, WHERE IN THE WORLD IS OSAMA BIN LADEN?, on that same weekend. His documentary only brought in $143,000. Furthermore, since they opened, Stein’s documentary was averaging more than $5,180 per theater while Spurlock’s movie was averaging less than $2,650!
Kudos to the moviegoing public!
