Number of Unmarried Mothers Skyrockets

The number of unmarried women bearing children has skyrocketed 26% in the United States since 2002, according to a study of 2007 birthrates in America by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.

The estimated 1,714,643 babies born to unmarried women represent 39.7% of all births in 2007, a new record.

Also, the birth rate for U.S. teenagers increased again for the second straight year, from 41.9 births per 1,000 teenagers to 42.5 births.

Pundits are mulling over the effects of these new trends toward sexual immorality and away from traditional marriage, but, as Hamlet remarks in Act 1, Scene 2, “It is not nor it cannot come to good.”
