8 Family Movies Coming Out in 2019 You Should Know About

Last year we saw some terrific family movies, some of which even made our Top 10 list for families. This year there are all sorts of sequels and remakes that could either be really good, really bad or somewhere in the middle. Of course, when they come out you can check back at Movieguide®, and we’ll let you know if they’re actually family-friendly, but in the meantime, here are eight movies geared for families releasing this year that you should know about.

  1. THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART ~ February 8, 2019

In just a short week, audiences who enjoyed THE LEGO MOVIE and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE can look forward to the next story in the series! Christian actor Chris Pratt along with his castmates will reprise their roles to voice the characters.

  1. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD ~ February 22, 2019

In the third movie in the series, Hiccup learns that his dragon Toothless isn’t the only Night Fury and ventures to the “hidden world” to uncover a colony of new dragons.

78 years since the animated film’s release, Tim Burton (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) will bring the sweet circus-movie to life. Colin Farrell, Danny Devito and Michael Keaton play title characters.

  1. THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 ~ June 7, 2019

Illumination Entertainment (DESPICABLE ME, MINIONS) is gearing up for a summer release! The movie’s premise is like TOY STORY, but with pets!

  1. TOY STORY 4 ~ June 21, 2019

Woody, Buzz and the whole gang are back for Disney/Pixar’s fourth installment of the TOY STORY series with a new toy named Forky! Details of the storyline are slowly being released but Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack will return to voice the characters along with newcomers to the series Keanu Reeves and Patricia Arquette.

  1. THE LION KING ~ July 19, 2019

This live-action remake has a star-studded cast for Pride Rock including Hollywood legends like James Earl Jones (Mufasa), and Beyoncé (Nala). The movie is directed by Jon Favreau, who also helmed the live-action remake of THE JUNGLE BOOK.

  1. THE ANGRY BIRDS 2 MOVIE ~ August 16, 2019

As summertime winds down, THE ANGRY BIRDS 2 MOVIE will release. The popular phone game turned movie will feature a slew of talented actors including Josh Gad (FROZEN) and Sterling K. Brown (THIS IS US).

This go-round, beloved characters will try to unearth the mystery of the kingdom of Arendale! Some voice talents from THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 will overlap for this Disney princess flick.
