The cast of A MINECRAFT MOVIE explained why they loved working on the story and how they hope the film will supercharge the audience’s creativity.
“I liked seeing everything come straight out of the game in person because of lot of our sets were practical,” Emma Myers told FilMonger. “It was great to actually feel like you were walking around in the game. Also, just being a part of something that’s so iconic is really such an honor.”
“I think, you know, the creative stuff that I think we really captured throughout this movie, we kind of figure out how, like, at least my character, you know, the creative side of Minecraft and just capturing that,” added Sebastian Hansen.
Jason Mamoa was excited to live in the creativity aspect of the movie, and it was what first drew him to the project.
“It was about protecting imagination, and I thought that was a beautiful thing,” Mamoa said. “That’s that most important thing that we have and that makes us individuals. It makes me happy, and the reason for living is just having that art and imagination.”

A MINECRAFT MOVIE is a funny, light-hearted tale with deep meaning. It has a strong redemptive, morally uplifting worldview where people find meaning, strength, love, and courage in friendship to fight evil. A once self-absorbed character risks his life to save his friend. The evil queen says to hope, dream and create is to suffer, but the hero rebukes her by telling her that cowards choose to destroy things because it’s easier. A MINECRAFT MOVIE has lots of action violence, some light foul and crude language, a few scary images, rude humor, and some scary images. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and young teenagers.
The movie has been an extreme hit, breaking records at the box office and landing as the No. 3 movie of the year after its weekend debut. The movie broke $300 million at the global box office during its opening weekend, setting it up to break the $1 billion mark. It even has a chance to dethrone THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE as the most successful video game adaptation of all time as that movie only opened to a gross of $146 million.
